Holy Spirit Our Helper
It’s important that we understand the role of the Holy Spirit. A few days before Jesus was crucified, he had a long conversation with his disciples, you can read that in John chapters 14-16
He encouraged them that although he would be leaving them physically, he was not going to leave them alone. Instead he promised to send the Holy Spirit to be with them permanently as their Helper.
The Holy Spirit is all encompassing. He has been sent to us to be our Comforter, Counsellor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Standby.
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, therefore His revelation from the Father to us will always be rooted and grounded in the Word and bring Honour and Glory to Jesus in our lives.
Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about the Holy Spirit as our Helper.
Let’s read John 14:15-18
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever- the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
Let’s also read John 14:26 KJV
But when the Father sends the Counsellor as my representative - and by the Counsellor I mean the Holy Spirit - he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I myself have told you.
And now let’s read John 16:7-8 NKJV
Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
And finally, let’s read Romans 8:26-27 NKJV
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
We need to remember that the Holy Spirit is always with us. We should be talking to him and asking for his help all the time. He will lead you and guide you if you just ask him. There have been times in my own life when it’s been something as simple as I may have misplaced my keys, and I’ve asked the Holy Spirit to help me find them. It is amazing how he will help you do just that! He wants to help you in all areas of your life.
Lord, I ask that you would make each of us more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to comfort us in our weaknesses, to give us strength, and to guide us into all truth. I ask that you give each person listening to this teaching, the boldness to testify about what you are doing in our lives. I pray this in Jesus mighty name, amen.
Thank you for joining me today, I hope you are encouraged to know you are never alone, the Holy Spirit is living within you, and he wants to help you in every area of your life.
