Are You a People Pleaser?

Do you often find yourself concerned about what people will think of you?

Is your need of pleasing others getting in the way of your own happiness, and taking your focus off of what God would want you to do?

I think that is something we’re all guilty of to a certain degree. We tend to care too much about what people think, rather than what God would think. Everyone has the desire to feel accepted and appreciated.

Today our topic is, are you a people pleaser? I came across some really great quotes that could really help to put this into perspective.

This first quote is by Elizabeth Parker;

“The only thing wrong with trying to please everyone is that there’s always at least one person who will remain unhappy, you.”

This next quote is by Lecrae;

“If you live for people’s acceptance, you will die from their rejection.

This last quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt;

“You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.”

The truth of the matter is, if you are always trying to please others, it will prevent you from being who you are born to be, and it will prevent you from doing what God wants you to do.

It also has the potential to make everyone but you, happy.

Let’s take a look at what the Bible says about pleasing God over pleasing people.

Let’s start by reading 1Thessalonians 2:4 in the NKJV, it reads like this;

But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.

Galatians 1:10 in the KJV reads like this;

Obviously, I’m not trying to be a people pleaser! No, I am trying to please God. If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ’s servant.

Jeremiah 17:5 in the KJV reads like this;

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans and turn their hearts away from the Lord.

Proverbs 16:7; in the NKJ says,

“When the ways of people please the Lord, He makes even their enemies live at peace with them.”

There is a real freedom that comes with focusing on pleasing God rather than man.

It’s important to understand that pleasing God doesn’t just happen, we need to be intentional about it. We need to remember that God sees our heart.

Some of the benefits we get from pleasing God are,

we will have peace, we’ll have his protection, we’ll have eternal life, we will bear fruit in every good work, we will have favour with God, God will grant us the desires of our heart, He will establish our steps.

I’d like to take a minute before we close today to say a quick prayer over you.

Lord, I pray for each one listening to this teaching, that you would help each person to focus on how to please you alone, and to stop pleasing the world. I just ask that you help them to do all things according to your will, and that you would direct each ones steps going forward. I pray this in Jesus precious name, amen.

Thank you for joining me today, I hope today’s teaching will inspire you to be a God pleaser instead of a people pleaser. Have a blessed day!

Kim
